The running coach
that says no.

Most training apps give everyone the same program. Jauda builds yours from your individual physiology. If your goal is unrealistic, Jauda rejects it — with a citation.

In January 2026, running intervals in −15°C through snow in Finland, I got a notification: you're running too slow. Session summary: 5% success.

The app had no idea about the conditions. It had no idea I was 54 and built differently than the average training plan assumes. It just compared my output to a number — and called it failure. I posted about it on a running forum. Then I started building something better.

The more I read — Seiler, Gabbett, Nielsen, Mujika — the more I understood that the science is solid but most apps don't apply it individually. Jauda is the attempt to close that gap.

On devices and data

An honest take.

Good devices add real value. The question is when — and what to trust.

Heart rate is genuinely useful — modern sensors are reliable enough for zone work. A chest strap is even better. This is data worth acting on.
GPS is excellent for navigation and distance — that's what it was built for. Over longer runs on open terrain it's accurate and adds real value.
GPS pace is an approximation of an approximation. Position is estimated, distance derived from that, pace derived from distance. Using it as a precision load signal second-by-second asks more than it can deliver.
Elevation without a barometer is a guess. Online map contours can be 1–30m resolution. A harder route can look flat on your summary — and grade-adjusted pace inherits that error.
Derived metrics compound the uncertainty. Training load scores, fitness predictors, race estimates — useful directionally, not ground truth for individual daily decisions.

Jauda + good shoes
A beginner doesn't need a GPS watch. They need a physiologically sound program that respects their body. That's Jauda's job from day one.
When you're ready
Add heart rate
Once you understand your zones by feel, HR data confirms it. A chest strap is the most meaningful addition — Jauda uses it to calibrate your program automatically.
When it serves you
A GPS watch
Route data, activity history, deeper integration. Jauda connects to Garmin and Apple Health when you're ready. Powerful addition — not a requirement to start.

How Jauda works

Five things most apps skip.

01

Your biology, not averages

Age, gender, BMI, and experience change every parameter — recovery time, volume ceiling, intensity distribution. A 55-year-old needs 72–96h between hard sessions. A beginner needs 90% easy running for the first 4 weeks. Jauda calculates this individually.

02

The Brutal Check

Before generating a plan, Jauda validates your goal against three physiological constraints: pace improvement rate, minimum time window, and peak volume buildability. Unrealistic goals are rejected — with an academic reference explaining exactly why.

03

80/20 polarized training

Based on Seiler & Tønnessen (2009): 80% of volume at genuinely easy intensity, 20% at genuinely hard. No grey zone junk miles. The app enforces this — including when −15°C and snow make your pace look slow on paper.

04

Tapering that preserves fitness

Most apps cut volume and call it tapering. Jauda cuts volume but always preserves neuromuscular stimulus — because without it, race-day fitness degrades within 10 days. Based on Mujika & Padilla (2003).

05

Conditions-aware adaptation

Temperature, wind, and terrain affect physiological load. Jauda adjusts pace targets in real time. Running in −15°C through snow is not a failed interval. It's a different kind of hard — and Jauda knows the difference.

JEP — Jauda Effective Pace

Your zones. Your conditions.

Training zones are derived from your anchor performance — not age formulas. In normal conditions, your pace is X. In heat or cold, Jauda adjusts the target so the physiological effort stays identical even when the number changes.
